You can use this lens for close-ups, but be careful with your composition. Large areas of the image will become blank and could destroy your picture. Even if you do not plan to go digital right this moment, it is important that the photography business plan include plans for future growth and expansion, and this will most likely involve at least some digital photography.
But you can find beautiful landscapes right where you live. That?s the great thing about nature, it?s everywhere, and landscapes are everywhere. Modern photography has given a totally new meaning to the entire perception of life and privacy. Photography has made it possible to capture and preserve special moments, in private and in public life.
You will also want to check any and all requirements to the contest and make sure you qualify. You will then want to check for any fine print and be sure you agree with the terms.

Wang Guangyi s paintings combine the ideological power of communist propaganda with the seductive allure of advertising. Juxtaposing revolutionary images with consumer logos, Wang s canvases provocate with their duplicitous message, highlighting the conflict between China s political past and commercialised present. Stylistically merging the government enforced aesthetic of agitprop with the kitsch sensibility of American pop, Wang s work adopts the cold-war language of the 60s to ironically examine the contemporary polemics of globalisation.The paintings of Wang Guangyi belong to the category of Chinese contemporary art termed Political Pop: work that appropriates the visual tropes of the propaganda of the Cultural Revolution, reworking them in the flat, colorful style of American Pop.The work of artists like Wang Guangyi may be reduced to a mere aestheticization of the experiences of the Cultural Revolution, a view which threatens to limit the discussion of these works to their formal elements, foreclosing more important ideological and historical questions that must be raised. Wang Guangyi is interested in the visual transmission of the socialist message. He first thought about making his Materialist sculptures in 2000-2001. The inspiration came from the socialist realist statues he saw everyday throughout his childhood. Images of leaders or of model heroes were immensely effective communicators of power and idealism, and deeply inspirational for a great many people. Interested in the communicative power of these sculptures, Wang Guangyi wanted to continue the communication thus bringing that era of Chinese history to younger generations, making them reflect on Chinese history. He wants to transmit the concept of socialism using a visual approach and at the same time communicate some of the faith the Chinese people had in the socialist message. Power is an important element in these works. Wang Guangyi considers these sculptures a turning point in his work, moving away from the cultural conflicts expressed in his Great Criticism paintings.Wang s paintings weave intricate narratives, implicating the role of the artist as an active participant (both as subjugator and subservient) in economic and social policy. Wang treads a very delicate line between moral dictum and capitalist endorsement; the interpretation of his paintings alternates with the subjectivity of context. Amalgamating, confusing, and blurring opposing ideological beliefs, Wang s billboard sized canvases readily sell out national valour, while simultaneously devaluing status symbol luxury for the proletariat cause.

Five common digital photography mistakes and how to fix them

Problem: Lackluster composition Sometimes just a subtle shift of emphasis is all it takes to turn a throwaway digital photograph into a treasured keeper. Here are the top tips to immediately improving your composition.
Tip 1: The Rule of Thirds is a time-honored technique professional photographers use to improve composition. Imagine a tic-tac-toe grid over the image you want to take. Use the intersection of those lines to place your subject slightly off center, and bring interest up or down.
Tip 2: Take photos at various angles and distances to give you more options to choose from. Also experiment with vertical and horizontal camera orientation you may discover that this simple shift yields interesting results.
Tip 3: Eliminate distracting background clutter by getting closer to your subject. Or try using your camera s Portrait pre-set mode. This will keep objects close to you in focus, while blurring the background. You can achieve the same effect, known as a shallow depth of field, by manually adjusting your aperture setting to a low f-number, such as f2.8.
Problem: Poor lighting Digital photography is all about catching that magic moment when the light is just right. But lighting also provides some challenges. These tips will help, whether you re indoors or out.
Tip 1: Balance bright or dim light Digital cameras get confused by unbalanced conditions, such as a very bright or dim light, causing the camera to under or over expose your photo.
In low light conditions, try using your camera s night shooting mode, or lower the ISO to 50 or 100 to get rich detail in low light. Use a tripod, or steady yourself against a stable object to avoid moving the camera.
In bright light, try your camera s Beach or Sunshine mode, or manually choose a fast shutter speed to control the amount of light that comes in.
Tip 2: Shooting indoors Avoid using your flash. Instead, provide as much natural light as possible open curtains, or even the door. Or use lamps to add light to the scene. Your flash mutes color and casts stark, deep shadows that are especially unflattering in portraits.
Don t place your subject in front of a bright window or they will become a silhouette (although this can be a nice effect when done intentionally). Try placing them off to the side instead, or facing a natural light source.
Tip 3: Shooting outdoors Try to have the sun behind you when you shoot. This will provide the most flattering light to your subject.
Shoot early or later in the day dawn and dusk provide lovely light, whereas midday light can be harsh.
Take advantage of overcast days for photography. That s when the light is even, and casts almost no shadows.
Problem: Red-eye The appearance of glowing red eyes can ruin a portrait of even the cutest child or pet. The red color comes from light reflecting off of the retinas in our eyes. The following quick tips can help get the red out.
Tip 1: Try not to use a flash if possible it is the number one cause of red-eye. Instead, turn on lights or open curtains to add additional light to your scene.
Tip 2: Ask your subject to look toward the camera but not directly at the lens or to look into a bright light first.
Tip 3: Stand farther away from your subject.
Tip 5: Take advantage of in-camera red-eye removal. Many digital cameras and photo printers now allow you to remove red-eye or prevent it altogether. Check your digital camera s manual to see if it includes these features.
Problem: Blurry photos While a photo with a dramatic blur can often be artistic, it can also render a subject incomprehensible. Here are some ways to add clarity to your digital photographs.
Tip 1: Reduce shutter lag. The time between pressing the trigger and the camera taking the picture is called shutter lag, and it can cause blurry pictures. Avoid it by pressing the trigger halfway down until you re ready to shoot. When the right moment comes, press the rest of the way. This strategy is great when you re taking pictures of people (especially kids) or animals. ?
Tip 2: Minimize camera shake. Even the slightest camera movement can cause unclear photos. Use a tripod or brace yourself against a stationary object to hold the camera still. Some digital cameras come with image stabilization, another way to get clear images of moving subjects.
Tip 3: Use your digital camera s Action shooting mode for sports or other action shots. It automatically optimizes your shutter speed to help capture motion. Or manually increase your camera s shutter speed to achieve the same effect.? Problem: Low-quality prints If you plan to print your photographs using a digital photo printer, keep resolution in mind. Resolution is measured in megapixels (MP), and matching the resolution to the print size will help you get clear digital photo prints.
Tip 1: If you plan to enlarge or crop photos before printing, it s best to shoot at the highest resolution possible. But high-resolution pictures take up more memory.
Tip 2: If you plan to e-mail images or print smaller sizes, like 4″ x 6″ or 5″ x 7″ photos, you can stick to 4-5 MP with no problems.
Tip 3: Many digital cameras let you select the resolution level, so you can determine ahead of time whether you want to shoot a big file with lots of detail, or a quick snapshot you can post to a website or e-mail to friends and family.

Making A Gift Basket Is Fun And Easy

Anyone can make a gift basket and you ll definitely have fun doing it! Your basket, any container of your choice, should appeal to your recipient. The contents should also appeal to your recipient and should be customized for the occasion or the individual. So gather your ideas and head off to find those special gift items. Remember, your basket and the contents do not have to be expensive; rather you want the recipient to know that you took special care in making a unique gift.
Gift baskets are great for all occasions: for the new baby, a wedding, birthdays, get well, housewarming, special holidays or just because I m thinking of you .
Be creative when selecting the basket and determine how much you will place in it to insure you select the right size. If your gift is for an adult, select a wicker basket, a gift box /bag, or a hobby/themed container. Themed basket ideas would include a range basket for a golfer, a tool box for a gardener or a handy person, or a specialty ceramic piece to capture your theme. If the gift is for a child, make it fun! Select a dump truck for a little boy; a girl would love colorful purse.
With basket in hand, you now need to fill it with what your recipient likes. Candies, nuts, cookies, cheese, crackers, coffees/ teas or a favorite bottle of soda or wine are snacks you must include! But remember to leave room for the personal gifts. Consider a book for the book lover, a DVD for the movie buff, mugs for the coffee aficionado, spa items for someone who likes to unwind or special hobby gifts for the chef or fisherman. Remember that you are creating a gift that is personal and unique, so select items carefully.
You now have the basket and the gift items, but you re not creative and have not done this before, so how do I make the basket presentable? Fear not, it s easy and fun. Place the largest item(s) in the back of the basket, heaviest in the center and arrange the remainder of the items in the front and sides of the basket. A little tissue in the bottom to assist in arranging, a little tape (very little) to keep the gifts in place, a bow or colorful cellophane and you re finished.

Need A Scrapbook Journaling Idea?

Song lyrics can be a great source of title and page inspiration for a scraper.
Music and songs play an important part in our lives. Hearing a song again can evoke a lot of emotion, bringing back fond memories of special times, special people and special places.
Of course, different songs mean different things to different people - but you can use songs to tap into those memories to create unique, and highly personal scrapbook pages.
How do you use lyrics on your pages?
Well, here s a scrapbook journaling idea for you to try using a wedding layout as an example.
If the bride and groom have their own special song then you use that to add a personal touch. If not don t worry find another suitable song instead, there are lots of song lyric web sites on the internet that you can browse.
Pick a section from your chosen song for example, the first verse of A Groovy Kind of Love by Phil Collins and journal the lyrics around the edges of your page.
Then embellish your border with some appropriate wedding stickers, die-cuts or punches. Tie it all neatly together, by using the title of the chosen song as the accent title for your layout.
What about a friendship page? You could use some of the lyrics from “You ve Got a Friend” by Carole King, maybe decorate your border with musical notes.
Doing a page about someone s birthday? You could journal the words from Happy Birthday and embellish the border with cakes, candles or other birthday memorabilia.
Don t limit yourself to just a section of a song, use all of it if you want to.
Write or print out the complete song lyrics onto some nice paper and add it to your page. If you don t have the room left on your album page make a pocket envelope to put your song sheet into.
You can apply this scrapbook journaling idea to any kind of page theme, not just the ones listed here as examples.
There have been tens of thousands of songs published over the years covering all sorts of subjects the possibilities for the resourceful scraper are endless.
Just make sure that the song title or lyric you are going to use is suitable for the theme of your layout and you ll soon add a quick, simple and memorable piece of journaling to your page.

Equipment needed for bird photography

The nice thing about bird photography is that it can happen anywhere on our beautiful globe. The not so nice thing is that birds are small or shy, and you need to be able to get close enough with your equipment. In this article, we will be looking at the ideal equipment for bird photography. We will also be having a quick look at how to use this equipment.
Camera body
We live in the world of digital photography, and therefore we will only be discussing digital camera bodies. I am also a really big Canon fan, so I will talk Canon, and you can translate it to other manufacturers if you need to.
You will need a decent camera body that allows you to set continuous focus while shooting images in the raw image quality. The cheapest body allowing you to do this is the Canon EOS 20D. However, it is not really cheap. The reason for it being not too affordable is that it is actually a very good all-round camera body for the serious amateur or professional. You cannot go wrong with this body
Lenses
A lot of amateurs think that a really decent long zoom lens will solve all their problems. I have been there guys, and it does not. Do what the professionals do and get that long prime lens.
I used the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM for a long time, and my results were decent but not good enough. It is not the sharpest lens. If you need to use a zoom rather stick with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. It is pin sharp.
I now use the Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM and it is the best thing that could have happened to my photography. It is very sharp and very fast at the same time. A bit heavy at times, but I need the exercise! With this lens I mostly use a Canon Extender 1.4x II for an effective focal length of 1 120 mm with autofocus! That is plenty for any bird, and I cannot imagine getting a lot of good bird photographs with anything shorter.
By the way, do not use manual focus. Today s cameras were not built for manual focus as the viewfinders are small and do not allow you to see enough detail to manual focus effectively.
Photographing flying birds
Okay, now you have all the equipment and you are heading into the field to get that award winning photograph of a flying bird. You have to have enough light entering your lens for a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action. You also want your camera to focus where the bird is in that split second you are going to give it before firing away. So what do you do ?
Set you camera to an ISO speed of 400. In sunshine this ought to be fast enough. The reason for not using ISO 100 or 200 is that you are photographing action and you do not want anything to blur.
You must also make sure your lens is open at its maximum aperture. A Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM lens coupled with a Canon Extender 1.4x II gives a maximum aperture of 5.6, and this is what I use when photographing flying birds.
Also ensure your camera is set to continuous autofocus. Canon calls this setting AI Servo focus. This is crucial and the main reason why I am not a fan of camera bodies like the Canon EOS 350D. They do not allow you to use this focus with raw images Thanks Canon!
I also set my image stabilizer to Mode 2 for photographing moving subjects, to avoid it actually working against that sharp photo rather than for it
Now all that is left is moving that heavy lens around while the birds are flying past. Happy shooting!
Conclusion
We professionals have a way of sometime making it sound like you do not need good equipment to be a good photographer. That is utter non-sense. Get yourself decent equipment and you will see why the pros get the shot and you don t.
The other thing that makes the professionals so much better than the average amateur is patience. Go and sit somewhere where there are birds, forcing yourself not to move for three hours, and you will get the magic shots. Your patience will be rewarded.
